Central Park is a wonderland of skyline views and hidden gems but this title comes from one of the highlights of this tour, the Alice and the Wonderland statue by Jose de Creeft. This tour includes everything from the Best of Tour as well as:
The Loeb Boathouse
The Alice and the Wonderland Statue
The Model Sailboat Club
The Nest of Pale Male a Red Tailed Hawk
Belvedere Castle
Shakespeare’s Garden
The Obelisks
The Jackie Kennedy O’Nassis Reservoir
Museum Mile
Belvedere Castle
Belvedere means “beautiful view” in Italian. This castle was never used in a battle but it does have lovely views in every direction. Seeing this spot does require some mobility. We will walk roughly a half mile along a stunning loop that takes us through the Ramble, Belvedere Castle, Shakespeare’s Garden and the Great Lawn.
Shakespeare's Garden
Shakespeare’s died roughly 250 years before Central Park was built but on the 300th anniversary of his death, this small garden was planted using flowers and shrubs either mentioned in plays or that grow in his hometown Stratford-upon-Avon.
The Obelisk
This might be the most fascinating place in Central Park. How did an Egyptian obelisk from 1450BC end up in the middle of Central Park in the late 1800s? Find out.
Alice and the Wonderland Statue
The Mad Hatter is a caricature of philanthropist George Delactore who paid for this statue and the small outdoor theater where professional, often very famous actors stage free Shakespeare in the Park performance. We’ll take a roughly 15 minute walk through this area to see this statue as well as that of Hans Christian Anderson while taking a closer look at the Boat Pond where people pay $20 to get a marina permit to dry dock their model sail boats.
